The theme of the photographs was the Oulainen Wanhan Woimanpäivät event, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2023.

I undertook this project because I wanted to highlight that even a small community has the strength to create a major event that puts it on the map in Finland. Too often, events are concentrated in large cities, which is why I wanted to bring something different into the world. There is power in small places, and even more so in the people who bring this to light.

The photographs were taken as part of a photo documentary course held in the summer of 2023.

I also created an exhibition featuring these photographs, titled The Spirit of a Small Village.
